Safe Travels

"Safe Travels" is inspired by 出入平安 (chū rù píng ān), a traditional Chinese well-wish for safety and peace in coming and going.

The four characters are arranged across mahjong tiles in two balanced pairs: 出入, referring to going out and returning, and 平安, meaning peace and safety. Set against a calm blue background, the composition brings a sense of steadiness to a phrase centered on movement, departure, and return.

Created as part of my Mahjong Well Wishes series, this piece draws on the familiar visual language of mahjong to give a traditional blessing a contemporary form. It can be especially fitting for an entryway or another space associated with arrivals and departures.
