This one-of-a-kind version of "Orchids 3" is finished by hand with composite gold leaf, tracing the edges and contours of the cascading pink blossoms.
Set against a clear blue background, the orchids sweep diagonally across the composition, leaving generous open space around them. The gilded lines catch and reflect light as the viewing angle changes, adding a luminous, dimensional surface to the simplified floral forms.
The painting was inspired by the orchids my mother nurtures and brings into bloom around Lunar New Year. Orchids have longstanding significance in Chinese culture, where they are associated with refinement, integrity, and beauty. For me, they also carry a personal connection to home and to a flower I have seen cared for year after year.
This piece began as part of my Kintsugi-inspired series, in which test prints and color variations were transformed through hand embellishment rather than discarded. The gold leaf was applied individually by hand, making this a unique physical version of Orchids 3 that will not be reproduced in exactly the same form.
