Lanceleaf Coreopsis - Gouache Embellished

This one-of-a-kind version of "Lanceleaf Coreopsis" brings together two different moments in my practice: one of my earliest floral paintings from 2024, and a later return to the work through hand-applied gouache.

The original painting began with a flower I noticed on a neighborhood walk before I even knew its name. I was drawn first to its bright yellow form and only afterward looked it up and learned that it was lanceleaf coreopsis. That experience became an early example of something that continues to shape my work, paying closer attention to ordinary plants and flowers, then allowing curiosity to lead the way.

In this embellished version, I revisited the original print with gouache, adding hand-painted lines, layered color, and a more active patterned background. The additional paint gives the flower greater depth and intensity while making the surface visibly distinct from the original digital print.

For me, this piece carries a particular sense of progression: an early floral painting transformed later through physical mark-making and a different way of seeing the work.
