These one-of-a-kind variations of "Chinese Peony" were individually finished by hand with composite gold leaf, giving each piece its own color character and surface.
The works began as test prints made while I was refining color reproduction with my home printer. Rather than discard prints that differed from the original, I chose to transform them: an approach inspired by the philosophy of kintsugi, which embraces imperfection as part of an object’s story rather than something to hide.
Gold leaf follows selected edges and contours of the peony, catching and reflecting light as the viewing angle changes. Against the matte printed surface, the gilding adds contrast, dimension, and a quiet luminosity that becomes more apparent at closer viewing.
Three variations are currently available:
Dark — deeper rose tones with a cool blue-gray background
Warm — softer, warmer pink and coral tones with a pale green background
Gray — brighter pink tones with a muted gray-lilac background
Each variation is individually hand-finished and will not be reproduced in that exact form.
